So we’re taking a step back to create a strategy alongside you, and then recommend the tools our community endorses to help you leap to the next level. But the hard truth is that tools alone will not make you more productive or successful in your role. Last week, Susan Silver prompted a lively discussion in our community about organizational tools for community professionals. We received dozens of recommendations for community tools, and we were tempted to write this article about which tools to use and why.

Instead, we offer a different way of looking at productivity, bolstered by advice from our in-house productivity expert, Robin Spinks, and dozens of our CMX community members. Here, we will show you how to assess your productivity and pick tools that allow you to work in your own most productive way. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to community productivity. It’s about getting them done in a way that is sustainable over the long term. Productivity is not just about getting things done. When you’re working with no productivity system in place, it’s easy for Impostor Syndrome to get the best of you: are you doing enough? Are you spending too much time on Twitter? Does everyone think you’re just making everything up? When you feel that you are giving all you can – and not a drop more – you begin to see your value.
